Does Divergent Thinking Proceed in A Standardized Test?
Nyak Mutia Ismail

Syiah Kuala University

Abstract

In dealing with standardized tests, including TOEFL test, there is a common propensity for test-takers to adopt convergent thinking—which is a cognitive process in retrieving a pre-existing answers using concepts, knowledge, and understandings. On the contrary, the use of divergent thinking in standardized tests is scarce because the test-takers do not create new knowledge or ideas during the test. This study sought whether higher divergent thinking ability could affect TOEFL score. A case study was employed to gather the data from 73 respondents (divided into two groups) whom of which were 3rd year Economics students at Syiah Kuala University. Guilford’s Alternative Uses Task was used as the instrument where the students should name the functions of stone in 5 minutes. The total of 178 responses were obtained from this task. The data were analyzed using the task’s scoring system which grades the originality, fluency, flexibility, and elaboration. The results showed that those whose ability in divergent thinking is higher could achieve average score reaching 523; while those with less ability in employing divergent thinking could only attained 477 in average. The findings imply that in teaching TOEFL preparation—or other standardized tests, divergent teaching technique needs to be employed as the instructors should expands students’ thinking by not only limiting it to Question-Answer technique. A mild suggestion from the author could be bringing in the TOEFL core-subjects to class, i.e. American history, culture and geography, technological invention, governmental systems, and so on to aid students’ thinking ability to ascent to a broader extent.

MUHBIB ABDUL WAHAB

FITK UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta

Abstract

Hendi Hidayat

IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon

Abstract

For a higher-order comprehension, academic reading class at IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon is designed to develop the EFL learners’ critical reading, and to draw their awareness to the relationship between reading and writing. The unit objective is to enable students to respond to academic texts critically, and express an informed opinion on issues addressed in a written form. The idea of reading response is influenced by the work of Rosenblatt. For her, reading transaction is an active event. Although this theory was widely applied in literature major, but the writer sees such a valuable thing to bring this theory into academic reading setting. Qualitative data are presented, which demonstrate how critically minded these learners are when engaging with texts. The author gathered data for this analysis by conducting observation, interview and document analysis of learners’ written work. This article concludes with suggestions for how teachers can develop their own critical literacy approach to texts and units. The EFL learners presented in this study established a careful selection of texts, activation of their background knowledge, questions to the author’s ideas, intertextuality for answering the questions, and reflection in finishing their product.

TES KEMAMPUAN MENYIMAK SEBAGAI SALAH SATU DARI KETERAMPILAN BERBAHASA
Seli Mauludani

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia
Jl. Setiabudi No. 229, Bandung
mauludaniseli[at]gmail.com

Abstract

Impact of Introduction of Open Book Examination on Teachers of H2 Malay Language and Malay Literature
mohd fuad bin salim

MOE Singapore

Abstract

Singapore’s A level curriculum underwent a major change in 2006 and along with it, the mode of examination for Paper 2 of the Higher 2 (H2) Malay Language and Malay Literature (H2 MLL) was changed from a closed book examination to an Open Book Examination (OBE). This research attempts to understand the impact of the change on teachers teaching the subject at that time, based on the experiences of the teachers involved, by looking at their understanding of the meaning and the objectives of the change and the capacity building of teachers in preparation for the change.
Qualitative methodology of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) is used to understand how the participants made sense of the transition through the participants’ accounts of it. Data was collected by interviewing the participating teachers.
This research also identifies the challenges that the teachers faced as they underwent the change, especially in the area of capacity building. In addition, the effect of examination and evaluation system on educational change are also highlighted. The responses of the teachers fortify the need to ensure that teachers, as implementers of the change, need to know and understand the meaning of the change for the objective of the change to be achievable.
In conclusion, the research findings further emphasise the complexities in effecting successful educational change and since “change is a constant for educational systems” (Hammond, 2005, p.362), teachers and policy makers need to collaborate to ensure change is successful.

Waleed Al Abiky, PhD

Qassim University

Abstract

in recent years, raising students scores in schools subjects has no longer become the main and only purpose of teaching and learning (Brookhart, 2016); however, some students data are just sometimes elusive; grades do not tell us much about students capabilities and what they can or cannot do. The current study, which was done during Spring 2017, investigates the meaningful conclusions that can be made of students grades in an English reading classroom grades at Qassim University. The class consisted of 63 students who were studying English. Students were first given a test on two reading passages followed by grading the test. Then, students problems in the test were in details specified, analyzed, and discussed with students. Several teaching and training sessions to address these problems were followed with different types of formative assessment. Then, the post reading test were administered again to students after three weeks. The results of the study shows that 1) students grades are just sometimes elusive and cant tell what students can and cant do, 2) the grades were given according to weather the answers were right or wrong which did not much address students specific problems nor given them the opportunity to address their reasoning and thoughts, 2) formative assessment were deeply effective, 3) formative assessment can give evidence of what were the students specific problems, success and challenges, 4) students grades went significantly up and there was a statistically significant difference between students scores in pre and post reading tests.

The Use of SFL Motivated Marking Scheme for a More Realistic English Writing Assessment
Ahmad Kailani, MA

Universitas Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin (The University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin)
South Kalimantan, Indonesia

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study proposes a model of marking rubrics for a writing assessment by using a simple SFL motivated marking scheme. There were 25 nursing care reports written by nursing students majoring in the International Class of Nursing Diploma at a higher education institution used as the research artefacts for this study. The Systemic Functional Linguistics framework, with a focus on the Textual Metafunction, serves as a tool for analysing and interpreting the texts. The main research focus was to assess the cohesion and coherence of the texts as the main criteria for a good quality writing. Text coherence criteria were drawn on the identification of types of Thematic structures and Thematic progressions found in the texts while cohesion categories were identified through the use of reference, lexical cohesion, conjunction, ellipsis, and substitutions within the clauses. The comparison between the existing writing rubrics and the proposed marking scheme was also undertaken in order to inform pitfalls of the rubrics. The result indicated that the existing marking criteria lacked an account of the cohesion and coherence of the texts. To address the issue, SFL motivated marking scheme would be far more realistic to be used as a marking rubric since it captured coherence and cohesion as the core criteria for a better quality writing assessment.

A contextually-based assessment process in EFL writing context: A perspective in Indonesian higher education
Fatimah

The University of Sydney

Abstract

Academic writing has been an important issue particularly in higher education since students’ works are mainly assessed in written form. In Indonesian context, university students and graduates were found to have low writing ability and do not have sufficient English writing skills. These facts are contradicted with the high demand of writing skills. In acquiring writing skills, students need to be actively engaged with their writing tasks. One of the ways to make students actively engaged with their writing task is by using exemplar-based assessment which allows students to explore their work, involve more and take more responsibility in performing their tasks. This paper explores the way to implement this kind of dialogic assessment process in higher education in Indonesia to improve students understanding on what they are expected to perform in writing task and build their confidence.

Abstract

The current study has the aim of investigating the effect of integrating portfolio assessment into EFL process writing classes. It tries to display that the integration of this type of alternative assessment into the process-based approach to writing would help in developing students’ product skills of writing. In order to confirm or reject the hypothesis that the implementation of portfolio assessment and the process writing approach would yield positive results if compared to the traditional mode of writing instructions and assessment, mainly the product approach and the standardized tests, a quasi-experimental study was conducted. Pre and post experiment writing tests were designed, and then, results were compared to show the effect of the treatment. The scores recorded from the experimental group post t-tests revealed that the participants attained higher scores in the different product skills if compared to those marked in the pre-test. The results obtained from this study can prove the effectiveness of integrating portfolio assessment model in the process-based approach for improving students’ writing skills. Following those findings, some recommendations are provided to help EFL teachers develop their students’ writing abilities.

ANALISIS BUTIR TES TOAFL (TEST OF ARABIC AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE) UIN MALIKI MALANG
Syaiful Mustofa

UIN MALIKI MALANG

Abstract

The Indonesian Lecturers’ Perspectives of Plagiarism and its Influence on Their Teaching Practice
Risa Fitria

President University

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to evaluate lecturers’ perceptions regarding plagiarism after studying in two different contexts (home university and western university). Although there are some studies on how lecturers view plagiarism, there is very little research conducted on how overseas graduate lecturers perceive plagiarism and the impact of their perspectives on their pedagogical practices. The study attempted to answer two research questions, 1) What changes in perspectives of plagiarism did lecturers have in a different academic community over time? 2) How do these changes impact on their current pedagogical practice? It utilized face to face (FtF) interview as the instrument to collect data. A population of nine lecturers from an institution in Indonesia was interviewed regarding their perceptions of plagiarism. The findings suggested that the lecturers have been influenced by the western concept of plagiarism, and thus, implemented varied approaches to deter plagiarism in their teaching practices. However, the findings also suggest that religious beliefs might affect the way the lecturers perceive plagiarism.

Mohamad Yani Pehang

UIN Jakarta, LPDP Awardee

Abstract

The curriculum reform is necessary when the one in use is no longer responsive to the needs and interests of the society it is intended to serve, Since 1945, the Indonesia curriculum has changed several times, namely in 1947, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1975, 1984, 1994, 2004, 2006, and 2013, What differentiates the 2013 curriculum with the previous curriculum is the 2013 curriculum comprises four core competences (CC), namely CC 1 for religious, CC 2 for social, CC 3 for knowledge these core competences must be integrated into lessons. , but to apply the curriculum is not as easy as what we think not all provinces in Indonesia have a good structure and qualified teacher, especially the school in rural, remote and border area , teachers in Alor as the rural, remote and border regency (LPDP, 2015) had not ability to use educational facility in order to improve students competence and knowledge, second, the quality of facility influences teacher performance in teaching lessons, the lack of school facilities and teachers competence in remote and rural area of Indonesia influence the integration of core values English lesson in the 2013 curriculum , so the perceptions of English teachers in rural, remote and border area are crucial as inputs for curriculum reform.

DIALEKTIKA GERAKAN PENERJEMAHAN DAN KEKUASAAN: Studi Kontribusi Kekuasaan Abbasiyah dalam Gerakan Penerjemahan ke dalam Bahasa Arab
MUHBIB ABDUL WAHAB

FITK UIN SYARIF HIDAYATULLAH JAKARTA

Abstract

MY CLASS IS MY SHOW: A STORY OF A TEACHER’S PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY CONSTRUCTION
Arnis Silvia

UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta

Abstract

Early years for novice English teachers are quite challenging as what they find ‘ideal’ in their pre-service education is somewhat different to the realities of the classroom (Flores 2001; Freeman 1996; Johnson, K 1996). Tarone and Allwright (2005) noted that there is a gap that cannot be bridged by novice teachers between materials they received in teacher preparation programs and the real conditions in the classroom. This situation creates some challenges for these teachers that can be characterized as academic, social and identity-related in nature (Belcher 2004; Pennington & Richards 2016). This paper investigates these challenges from the point of view of a novice English teacher in an Indonesian university. In addition, this paper also explores how this teacher makes meaning of her teaching and her professionalism. Despite the challenges did the teacher encounter, this teacher strives to struggle her own professional identity. Her narrative displays that the construction of professional identity is closely related to personal beliefs about teaching profession and the ‘struggle for voice’ (Britzman 2003). The narrative on teacher professional identity is critical in the continuum of teacher professional development.

Siti Nurul Azkiyah

Center for Language Development
UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta

Abstract

The concept of teacher quality has lately been defined through assessment on ongoing performance in the classroom. The remaining questions then are what performance should be assessed and how to do so. Addressing these two questions, therefore, literature review on educational effectiveness research, particularly teacher effectiveness research was carried out in the paper to understand teacher actions in the classroom that contribute to the achievement of learning goals and the strategies to assess these actions. The findings come to a conclusion that the classroom factors of the dynamic model of educational effectiveness research, one model of educational effectiveness research, could serve as a framework to conceptualize the aspects of teacher performance that should be assessed when measuring teachers’ quality. Furthermore, the dynamic model also offers two strategies to measure teachers’ quality, namely observation and student questionnaire. The details of the classroom factors of the dynamic model, the advantageous and disadvantageous of observation and student questionnaire, and the implication of the study for educational practice, especially with regards to the teaching of English, will be discussed in the paper.

Al Lugah Al Arabiyah Fi Muwajahah As Siyahah Al Halal: Al Furash Wa Al Tahaddiyat

UIN Mataram

Abstract

Nothing can do with sentence without having an ability to recognise the words. Previous studies found that vocabulary strongly influenced listening comprehension. This study also provided a theory of the importance of word recognition from speech as one constructs of vocabulary in relation with L2 listening comprehension. From the study it is suggested to investigate the correlation relationship between word recognition and listening comprehension in another context to uncover the nature of relationship between Word recognition from speech and listening comprehension and the ability to provide a valid source of data about participants’ cognitive process and to study individual differences.

“Long Time ago, in a Kingdom Far Away from Here…”: An Analysis of Circumstances in Indonesian ESL Students’ Narrative Text
Eka Fransisca Yulianie

Indonesia University of Education

Abstract

Narrative as one of the text types is promoted by Indonesian curriculum to be learned by students since it allows them to sharpen their literacy skills by telling and writing an engaging story. Nevertheless, the process of making an engaging story is quite challenging for the students, especially when they have to develop each stage so it can draw images of some world in readers’ mind. Systemic Functional Linguistics’ metafunctions, specifically experiential meaning, was chosen as the framework to analyze students’ narrative texts by comparing their writings to the selected expert text which have been analyzed in advance. This study emphasizes the analysis of Circumstances in narrative text written by the tenth grade students. The result of the analysis shows that the students’ texts, although comply with the conventional construction of narrative in terms of text organization and language features, they still lack in using Circumstances to flourish the characters, the background, and the complication of the story which are needed to realize the purpose of narrative text: to catch readers’ interest. The result of the analysis leads to the pedagogical implication where the researcher established the lesson plan to help students foster their narrative writing.

INTRODUCING THE INTERCULTURE COMMUNICATION IN ENGLISH AS AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE THROUGH ASIAN CARTOON MOVIES (YEH SHEN, CINDERELLA STORY FROM CHINA) AS A MEDIA TO TEACH ENGLISH IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Ana Rohdiana

SMPN Unggulan Sindang Indramayu Jawa barat Indonesia

Abstract

English is an International language or a global language. When we say this, do we really understand what it means? English is the language for us to use with Chinese, Koreans, Japaneses, Thais, Malaysians, Singaporeans and other Asians. It is the language for us to use with Europeans, Africans, Arabians, South Americans, and many others. English has become an International language means that it has become language for multinational communication. English today is a unique language, functionally and structurally quite different from other languages of the world. The spread of English as a language for multinational and multicultural communication utilized by an enormous number of non native speakers.
There are many different varieties of English, why can’t Indonesians choose a culturally appropriate local variety, Chinese, for example, instead of native speaker variety. Worldwide, English is not more commonly used as a language of communication between non native speakers of English than between native speakers of English (Mc Arthur 1998). This is particularly the case in South East Asia. When Indonesians and Chinese or Japanese meet to discuss project, they will probably speak in English. If English in Indonesia used primarily for communication between non native speakers of English then the cultures and backgrounds of those people are the same important with some culture traditionally associated with native speakers. For example, as it is most likely that Indonesians will need to use English in order to communicate with someone from the region, say a Thai or a Chinese, then Indonesian or our students will need to learn about the cultures of these people in order to be able to talk to them.
In this paper the researcher used Yeh Shen ( Cinderella story from China) cartoon movie as a media in english teaching learning process at Junior High School ( SMPN Unggulan Sindang Indramayu). In other words, instead of using native speaker models, we need to consider the possibility of using regional varieties of English in the classroom. For example Urashima, Omusubi Kororin, Yoshi The Lantern Maker, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, they are from Japan. The Starfruit Tree, Vietnamese folktale. Ungrateful Tiger, The Nine, The Fairy and The Woodcutter, The Magic Pot, The Pea Blossom, The Golden Fish, Babayage The Witch, The Greatest Jumper, Stone Soup, The Maze, Magic Fans, The Three Golden Apples, The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse, The Farmer and The Cow, Yao Wang, The Lemon Princess, The Farmer and The Turnip, The Liver of The Rabbit, The Ogres Feather, The Three Treasure, The Stubborn King, The Three Task, The man and The Wolf, etc. They are Korean Folktales cartoon movies.
The purposes of this article are to discuss and describe the use of teaching English using Yeh Shen cartoon movie as the media to introduce “Intercultural Communication” or interculture competence in English as an International language.

UIN Sunan Gunung Djati, Bandung

Abstract

The study aims to present an English course material design, which is informed by blended methodology and Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) as the social semiotic approach, for non-English Department students in Indonesia. Most of the non-English Department students have a low English proficiency. Therefore, Teaching English to them leads the teacher to some critical issues: the students’ inattention to the class, their persistent use of Indonesian language, and the lack of opportunities for them to be exposed and to practice English. The study is an effort to overcome the issues. It offers a design of self-blended course materials with the social semiotic approach. The materials are designed into two kinds: 1) text-based learning sources, which offer the students a self-exploration of how English people communicate by a variety of means in particular social settings, in the format of HTML5. The materials, which integrate the four language skill - listening, speaking, reading and writing, are self-accessed by the student to support the face-to-face classroom meeting; 2) classroom materials and activities to follow up the students explorations.

Multimedia Nusantara University

Abstract

Communication gap between foreign workers (TKA) and Indonesian working people can be overcome by the learning process of Indonesian language with learning materials that are easy to understand and interesting. Instead of being able to communicate business well, the foreign workers who want to learn Indonesian are confronted with the scarcity of Indonesian Language resources for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), especially for business communication purposes. Also the teachers feel the same difficulty in the procurement of the teaching materials. Some teaching materials such as BIPA UMN, BIPA Dahsyat, BIPA Badan Bahasa, BIPA UI, BIPA Malang, and research on BIPA teaching materials have been done such as Liliana Muliastuti (dissertation), Azza Aulia Ramadhani (thesis), and Riqoh Fariqoh (scientifict articles), But teaching materials and research results are common with topics ranging from daily life. The standard of competence used as a foundation also uses a strandar of languages in Europe and Australia, not the standard of Indonesian language competence which has been designed by the Language Agency. Therefore, a development study using the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI) standard titled "The Model of Indonesian Language Teaching Materials Special Aim for Business Communication for Foreign Workers at BIPA Bisnis UMN" is indispensable in the midst of the interest of foreigners learning Indonesian, but its presence It is in the midst of the scarcity of BIPA Bisnis

Ahmad Fathoni

Universitas Negeri Islam (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta

Abstract

Abstract
There are many factors affecting reading comprehension; two of them are syntactic awareness and background knowledge. The theory claimed that both syntactic awareness and background knowledge correlate with reading comprehension, yet some studies found the relationships were still debated. Therefore, this study was aimed for investigating whether the relationships between variables as well as the contributions of syntactic awareness and background knowledge to reading comprehension. 200 students from four different universities were selected to take three different tests measuring their reading comprehension, syntactic awareness, and background knowledge. The data were analyzed using Pearson’s product moment and multiple regression techniques to find out the correlations and the contribution. The result showed that there are positive relationships between the variables. Syntactic awareness contributes as many as 16.2 % towards reading comprehension, while background knowledge can account for 5.9% of the variability in reading comprehension. Together, syntactic awareness and background knowledge contribute as many as 18.3% to reading comprehension. The findings suggest that syntactic awareness should be trained to students and there should be pre-reading activity to active students’ background knowledge as attempts to make their reading comprehension better.

United Arab Emirates

Abstract

* أهداف البحث:
* محاور البحث:
* منهج البحث:

Abstract

Abstract
‎***‎

WRITING ANXIETY OF INDONESIAN EFL STUDENTS: LEVELS, FACTORS, AND COPING STRATEGIES
Delvi Wahyuni & Witri Oktavia

Universitas Negeri Padang

Abstract

Although, there have been similar studies on writing anxiety in the Indonesian context, this study is particularly important because it investigates three broad spectra in the study of writing anxiety simultaneously. This study examined the levels, the associating factors, and the strategies used to cope with writing anxiety among Indonesian EFL learners. The participants were 148 EFL students in two Study Programs at the Department of English, Universitas Negeri Padang. Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) developed by Cheng (2004) was used to collect the data on students’ levels of anxiety. Factors causing writing anxiety were investigated by administering Writing Anxiety Test (WAT) developed by Dally-Miller (1975). To gather data on coping strategies used to deal with writing anxiety, a questionnaire developed by Kondo & Yingling (2004) was utilized. It was found that the level of students’ writing anxiety ranged from medium to high, with the majority was in the medium level and none was in the low level. Factors causing writing anxiety were dominated by evaluation apprehension followed by stress apprehension and product apprehension. The coping strategies used by students to overcome writing anxiety were positive thinking, preparation, relaxation, resignation, and peer-seeking (most-frequent to least frequent respectively). Referring to these findings, it is imperative for writing instructors to implement assessment or evaluation strategies which facilitate learning (assessment for learning). Instructors are also encourage to create a less tense atmosphere in writing class that no student resort to resignation as their way to cope with their anxiety.

Abstract
Since people have different ways of perception, levels of motivation, and attitudes towards teaching and learning, they consistently differ from each other in their preferences of learning and acquiring knowledge. Therefore, the more instructors or teachers understand the differences, the better chance they have in understanding and dealing with the diverse learning needs of their students. Oxford (2003) defines learning strategy as specific actions taken by the learner to make learning easier, faster, more enjoyable, more self-directed, more effective, and more transferrable to new situations. Learning strategies for foreign language help learner build his/her autonomy, which requires the learner to take conscious control of his/her own learning processes (Hsiao & Oxford, 2002). Using strategies in foreign language is linked to proficiency or achievement (Hsiao & Oxford, 2002; Pressley & Associates, 1990). So, it is not surprising that students who frequently employ learning strategies enjoy a high level of self-efficacy, that is a perception of being effective as learners (Zimmerman & Pons, 1986). Strategies used by learners at the early stages of their foreign language development may differ from those who are more proficient. Strategies are selected intentionally and systematically by more effective foreign language learners ( Ehrman & Oxford, 1990).

The present study has been conducted to investigate the students’ learning strategies preferences, at SMAN 28 Tangerang Banten, in relation to gender and age. It is also to see the relationship between achievement and learning strategies preferences on foreign language learning. To perform the aim of the study, the researcher uses Oxford’s (1990) self-assessment inventory that is the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL). It is designed for both ESL and EFL contexts. The instrument was translated into Indonesian. The collected data were discussed under these six groups. A sample of 119 students (74 were female and 45 were male) was recruited from SMAN 28 Tangerang, which was taken by non probability sampling technique. In terms of comparing six groups, results showed that cognitive, affective and social strategies are the most commonly used ones. The female students have higher score in those strategies. In the current study, no relations between achievement and learning strategies was identified.

MAHMUDAH fITRIYAH Z.A.

UIN SYARIF HIDAYATULLAH JAKARTA

Abstract

University of Santo Tomas
Manila, Philippines

Abstract

The study is centered on the language attitude of Filipino university students in Manila specializing in the field of Hospitality Industry Management (HIM). It specifically aimed to look into the overall preference for and behavior towards a specific English variety (i.e., American English, British English and Philippine English) of the students. A total of 204 first year HIM students from the Far Eastern University were tapped to participate in the study. To measure the students attitude, a 16- item Likert scale questionnaire was lifted from Bautista (1990). Additional questions were created to confirm the quantitative data. Results show that while a number of the students approve of the use of Philippine English for communicative purposes, most of them prefer American English as their language for their field of specialization. The results also demonstrate the acceptability of Philippine English among the participants which may reflect the patriotic attitude of the Filipinos. In addition to the theoretical implications, pedagogical implications were also stated.

Universitas Islam Indonesia

Abstract

This paper reports on an investigation of EFL students’ self-reflection practice and self-regulated learning using an online learning platform (Google Classroom). There were 78 first-year students of English Language Education participating in this study. They took a two-credit Extensive Reading course that required 100-minute per meeting per week accompanied with other individual and group assignments. Data were collected from observations, documents, students’ reflective notes, and a focus group discussion. Results show that Google Classroom is likeable for students and serves as flexible, manageable, and ubiquitous tool for students’ learning reflection. Further, when adeptly designed, it can help develop students’ positive attitudes in learning and promote students’ self-regulated learning. Students are able to control their own learning, being pro-active to communicate with teachers, and fully understand some consequences of late submission of tasks. Despite of its disadvantages such as unavailable chat-rooms and conferences, this application offers many fruitful benefits for learning even for beginners of technology users. Several pedagogical recommendations on future implementation is also discussed.
